Joshua Warner, 44, of Galveston, Texas, has been arrested and charged with two felony counts of impersonating a public servant after allegedly stopping a truck, checking IDs, and assaulting a witness on November 9. Warner allegedly posed as an ICE agent, conducting what appeared to be a legitimate law enforcement stop, but failed to provide proper identification when questioned, raising red flags among those involved.
Authorities say Warner detained the driver and searched the vehicle before fleeing the scene. The incident was captured on livestream by Robert Harvey and Bruce Rebmann, whose recordings helped trigger a rapid police investigation. Police confirmed that Warner used a fake law enforcement ID card and badge, and his vehicle had been modified to resemble an unmarked cruiser, further misleading the public.
Witnesses described Warner’s behavior as professional at first. “He looked at their IDs, he shined a flashlight in their face,” one witness said. “He was doing everything a normal officer does.” But the situation quickly raised suspicion when Warner refused to provide his name or badge number, prompting witnesses to intervene and film the encounter.
Police arrested Warner on December 22, seizing his fake credentials and vehicle. Authorities are now seeking additional victims who may have encountered Warner and remind residents to verify the identity of law enforcement officers and document any suspicious encounters.
The case highlights the dangers of impersonation and the importance of community vigilance. Officers emphasize that residents should always confirm the legitimacy of an official’s identification and report unusual or potentially illegal behavior to law enforcement immediately.
