A devastating attack outside a synagogue in Greater Manchester has left two people dead and three others in serious condition, police confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident occurred outside Heaton Park Synagogue in Crumpsall as worshippers gathered for Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. According to Greater Manchester Police, the suspect rammed a vehicle into people before exiting and stabbing multiple victims.

The attacker, identified as a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent, was shot dead at the scene by responding officers.

“This was a shocking and violent assault targeting innocent people during one of the most sacred days in the Jewish community,” officials said.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack while increasing security measures across local synagogues and community centers.
