Chaos in Israel: Haredi Protesters Block Major Geha Interchange as Police Move In to Clear Roads

A disruptive protest unfolded at the Geha Interchange near Bnei Brak as ultra-Orthodox demonstrators, known as a hafganah, began blocking traffic on a busy route. Protesters, many young men in traditional suits and black hats, occupied the Jabotinsky intersection on Route 4, gesturing to stop cars, trucks, and other vehicles during the afternoon rush. Police quickly moved in to disperse the crowd and restore normal flow. Live footage captured the scene as it unfolded on a sunny day.

The demonstration follows a familiar pattern of Haredi opposition to the conscription of yeshiva students into the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Organizers had announced plans for blockades starting around 4 PM local time, once again bringing everyday life to a halt in the area. These actions have drawn growing frustration from many Israelis who view them as undermining national unity and security responsibilities during a time when the country faces serious external threats.

While the right to protest is respected, repeatedly blocking major roadways creates unnecessary hardship for commuters and emergency services. Israel continues to grapple with the sensitive issue of equitable military service across all segments of society. As tensions over the draft persist, many hope for constructive dialogue rather than repeated disruptions that divide the nation when solidarity is needed most.
