A 22-year-old thrill-seeker learned the hard way that social media fame comes at a cost. Benjamin Males was arrested and charged with five counts of dangerous driving after he posted dash-cam footage of himself speeding at nearly 100 mph and performing reckless wheelies on wet country roads.
Males tried to avoid detection by tagging the location as “Mexico” on Instagram. But UK police easily identified him and launched a prosecution after the viral video caught public attention.
The court banned him from driving for 18 months, sentenced him to 240 hours of community service, and fined him £199.
"This case sends a clear message: Social media is no shield from the law," an officer said.
Authorities are now warning others not to put lives at risk for likes and views—your camera might capture the evidence that convicts you.
