WASHINGTON, D.C. — Secretary Sean Duffy has announced a major boost to the Trump administration’s ambitious plan to modernize America’s air traffic control (ATC) system, revealing a $12.5 billion “historic downpayment” for the project.
Duffy emphasized that a comprehensive plan is already in motion, sharply criticizing the previous four years under Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and President Joe Biden for what he described as inaction and neglect in the aviation sector.
“This is what happens when you have leadership that actually cares about infrastructure and safety,” Duffy said, noting that the overhaul will aim to improve efficiency, reduce flight delays, and enhance safety protocols nationwide.
The administration says this is the first stage of a broader, multi-year modernization program that will transform U.S. airspace management and bring ATC technology into the 21st century.
