Vice President JD Vance says his attempt to follow a long-standing tradition for vice presidents was turned down by Kamala Harris.
Vance explained that it is “customary for the outgoing VP to show the incoming VP’s family the house,” and that he proposed bringing his children over to see their future home after the election. However, he claimed Harris “rebuffed” the request.
The exchange, according to Vance, was meant to ease the transition and give his family an early sense of the place they would be living for the next four years. Harris’s office has not commented on the claim.
The official residence of the vice president, located at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., has been home to America’s second-in-command since 1974.
