A dramatic police pursuit in Livonia, Michigan, ended with a stolen vehicle literally torn apart after officers deployed a high-tech tool known as “The Grappler.”

According to the Livonia Police Department, the driver of the stolen car attempted to flee with two passengers when officers engaged the device, which attaches to a fleeing vehicle’s rear tire. The superhero-style gadget quickly disabled the car by locking onto the wheel.

In a desperate attempt to break free, the driver accelerated, causing the entire rear axle to rip off. The chase ended immediately, and officers arrested the driver along with two occupants at the scene.

Police say the use of The Grappler showcases safer methods to stop dangerous pursuits, reducing risks to both officers and the public. The incident is under investigation, with charges pending against the driver.
