A deadly crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-95 in New Rochelle early Tuesday morning after a box truck collided with a tractor-trailer, authorities confirmed.

The accident happened just after midnight at mile marker 6.1 in Westchester County. Investigators say a 2026 Peterbilt tractor-trailer had slowed down in the right lane due to an active construction zone when it was rear-ended by a 2016 Hino box truck.

The Hino truck burst into flames upon impact, killing the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity.

The Peterbilt’s driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash forced a full closure of I-95 southbound for hours as crews worked to extinguish the fire, clear debris, and investigate the cause of the collision.
