ZAPORIZHZHIA, Ukraine — Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, killing at least two people and injuring 13 others, including children, according to the regional governor. The strikes also ignited multiple fires across the city, leaving emergency crews scrambling to contain the damage.

Earlier reports had indicated at least one fatality and seven injuries, but officials later updated the toll as rescue efforts continued.

In a separate attack, a drone strike in Kharkiv hit a university building, wounding at least three people. The assault adds to the wave of ongoing Russian drone and missile attacks across Ukraine, which have increasingly targeted both civilian infrastructure and urban areas.

The latest strikes underscore the growing toll on civilians as the war grinds on, with Ukrainian authorities warning of further escalations. International observers have renewed calls for stronger air defenses and urgent humanitarian aid to protect vulnerable populations.
