CAMARINES SUR, PHILIPPINES — Powerful winds from Super Typhoon Fung-wong (locally named Uwan) shook a suspension bridge in Camaligan, Camarines Sur, as the massive storm crossed the Philippine island of Luzon. Dramatic footage captured the bridge swaying violently under the force of the gusts, highlighting the typhoon’s intensity and the dangers facing communities in its path.

The typhoon made landfall late Sunday at 9:10 p.m. local time in Dinalungan, Aurora province, bringing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 230 kph. By early Monday, the storm had traversed Luzon, prompting authorities to issue red-level heavy rainfall warnings across Metro Manila and surrounding provinces, including Rizal, Laguna, and Bulacan. Catastrophic flooding is anticipated in areas still recovering from the effects of Typhoon Kalmaegi.

Officials reported that over one million people nationwide were evacuated as precautionary measures. Pre-landfall, at least two fatalities occurred due to landslides and drowning, underscoring the storm’s deadly potential. Authorities also suspended operations in vulnerable regions and prepared for storm surges expected to reach up to four meters.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) emphasized the seriousness of the situation, urging residents to remain indoors, avoid low-lying areas, and follow evacuation orders. Emergency services have been mobilized across the country to respond to potential flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage.

As Fung-wong continues to batter Luzon, communities brace for the ongoing impact, with authorities stressing the need for vigilance and adherence to safety protocols to minimize casualties and protect livelihoods in the typhoon’s path.
