Dramatic bodycam footage from the Ohio State Highway Patrol shows a first responder narrowly avoiding serious injury after two vehicles lost control at the same icy stretch of roadway within minutes.

The incident occurred on November 27, 2025, along State Route 7 near the Ross–Madison county line. Video shows a semi-truck sliding across an icy bridge before rolling over the side of the highway. A state trooper arrived on scene and began approaching the crashed vehicle to check on the driver.

Moments later, a pickup truck lost traction at the same location, sliding toward the trooper as he stood near the roadway. The footage captures the trooper urgently warning, “Watch out,” as the pickup skidded past, narrowly missing him. The trooper was not struck and was unharmed.

Authorities confirmed that neither the semi-truck driver nor the pickup driver sustained injuries in the crashes.

Ohio State Highway Patrol officials said the incident highlights the extreme dangers of black ice, particularly on bridges. Because bridges are exposed to cold air on all sides, they freeze faster than surrounding roadways, often catching drivers off guard even when nearby pavement appears clear.

OSHP data indicates that Ohio averages more than 100 weather-related crashes each year on bridges and overpasses, prompting repeated warnings for motorists to reduce speed and increase following distance during winter conditions.

Officials reminded drivers to slow down in freezing weather and to remain alert for emergency responders working along roadways, as secondary crashes pose serious risks to both motorists and law enforcement.
