U.S. Coast Guard aircrews from Air Stations Miami and Clearwater successfully rescued a mariner from a disabled sailing vessel 75 miles southeast of Daytona Beach on February 1, 2026. The operation was initiated after the individual activated a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), prompting an immediate search-and-rescue response.
Using night-vision equipment, Coast Guard personnel conducted a nighttime hoist operation in challenging sea conditions. Video footage captures the rescue swimmer approaching the pitching vessel, assisting the mariner aboard, and safely hoisting them into the helicopter. The mariner was transported to local EMS with no injuries reported.
The mission highlights the Coast Guard’s advanced aviation tactics and readiness to operate in low-visibility and adverse maritime conditions. Successful execution of such rescues demonstrates the critical role of coordination, training, and rapid response capabilities in ensuring safety for those at sea.
