InfoWars host Harrison Smith recently questioned Israel’s military operations in Lebanon, suggesting that Hezbollah is merely a defensive “militia” within the country and asking, “Why is Israel attacking Lebanon?” The clip aired during coverage of the ongoing 2026 Hezbollah-Israel war, which began on March 2 when Hezbollah launched missile attacks into northern Israel.

Smith characterized Hezbollah as an internal Lebanese group defending the nation, implying that Israel’s strikes are disproportionate or unprovoked. He stated, “Lebanon didn’t hurt anybody, they only have a militia internally… why Is Israel attacking Lebanon,” framing the conflict in a way that omits Hezbollah’s cross-border aggression.

Pro-Israel commentators quickly responded, citing Hezbollah’s record of hostility. Since October 2023, the group has launched over 8,000 rockets into Israeli territory, displacing approximately 60,000 civilians and causing civilian casualties. Hezbollah is designated a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union, and other countries due to its Iranian backing and consistent involvement in cross-border attacks.

Israel’s operations target Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon and suburbs of Beirut, aiming to neutralize threats to Israeli civilians. Since March 2026, strikes have killed at least 20 Hezbollah commanders, as part of a broader effort to reduce the group’s capability to launch attacks against Israel.

The incident highlights the ongoing clash between media framing and documented military realities. While Smith frames Hezbollah as a purely internal defensive force, independent reporting and security assessments underscore its active role in regional aggression and its threat to civilian populations in Israel.
