An explosion caused light damage to a Jewish school in Amsterdam early Saturday, in what Mayor Femke Halsema described as “a deliberate attack against the Jewish community.” The blast, which occurred in an upscale residential neighborhood on the city’s south side, damaged a rainpipe and charred an outer wall, but resulted in no injuries.
Mayor Halsema called the incident a “cowardly act of aggression” and said it underscores the growing antisemitism faced by Jewish residents in Amsterdam. She confirmed that security measures at Jewish institutions across the city will be increased in response to the attack.
City officials emphasized that the explosion is being taken very seriously and that authorities are investigating the circumstances behind the incident. The goal is to prevent further threats and ensure the safety of the Jewish community.
The attack has drawn condemnation from local leaders and highlights ongoing concerns about antisemitism in the Netherlands. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Jewish residents and institutions from targeted violence.
