Major Fire at Corby Recycling Plant Forces Evacuations and Road Closures
Firefighters from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service are battling a major blaze at a recycling facility on Gretton Brook Road in Corby’s Earlstrees Industrial Estate. The fire, involving an estimated 500 tonnes of recycling waste at a site believed to be Recycleforce, began with reports of a large initial blast followed by smaller explosions. Multiple crews remain on scene as thick black smoke continues to rise from the site. Residents and nearby businesses have been instructed to keep windows and doors closed, avoid the area, and evacuate if necessary.
Road closures are in effect along Gretton Brook Road and connecting routes, including Rockingham Road, to allow emergency vehicles full access. The massive smoke plume has been visible from several miles away, including parts of Rutland, Peterborough, Kettering, and Leicestershire. A local nursery has kept children indoors as a precaution while the fire is brought under control. No injuries have been reported so far.
