A luxury superyacht named Da Vinci has sunk off the coast of Formentera, Spain, after being engulfed in a massive blaze near the island of Ibiza.
Dramatic footage released by Spanish maritime rescue services shows the 92-foot vessel consumed by roaring flames, with towering plumes of thick gray smoke rising into the sky. The fire reportedly began in the yacht’s engine room and quickly spread beyond control, despite urgent firefighting efforts.
Emergency responders, including the Maritime Rescue and Safety Society, raced to the scene with rescue vessels Guardamar Concepción Arenal and Salvamar Naos. Seven crew members were safely evacuated to land without injury, as firefighters battled to contain the blaze.
The yacht ultimately sank approximately 7.3 miles southwest of Formentera. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, with early indications pointing to a possible mechanical failure in the engine room.
Cleanup operations are underway to remove debris from the surrounding waters, as maritime officials warn of potential hazards to navigation and the environment.
