Surfers on the East Coast braved massive swells as Hurricane Erin churned offshore, creating dangerous but thrilling conditions.

At Nag’s Head, North Carolina, a surfer from Wilmington was spotted catching and riding a towering wave all the way to shore. The scene drew onlookers as surfers took advantage of the rare surf opportunities brought by the storm system.

While the waves provided an adrenaline rush for experienced riders, authorities warned beachgoers about the risks of strong rip currents, rough surf, and unpredictable conditions caused by Erin’s outer bands.

Local officials urged caution, reminding the public that while the storm-driven waves attract surfers, they can also prove deadly for swimmers and inexperienced riders.
