IDF troops have dismantled a 1.5-kilometer Hamas underground terror tunnel in northern Gaza, the military confirmed, as combat engineering units continue sweeping the territory east of the Yellow Line for hidden infrastructure. The operation is part of an ongoing campaign that has already uncovered a string of tunnels in recent weeks, including a 600-meter passage near Deir al-Balah and a two-kilometer route dismantled in the south, many of them stretching from Hamas-held territory into areas under Israeli control. Troops remain deployed in the Yellow Line zone under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, and the IDF says it will keep neutralizing any tunnel, weapons cache, or militant infrastructure it uncovers while holding that line.

The discovery underscores just how deeply Hamas built its tunnel network into Gaza's terrain long before the war, and how much of that infrastructure still lies buried beneath the surface despite three years of fighting and a ceasefire now in place. Israeli forces say the pattern is deliberate: systematically locating, mapping, and destroying passages that could allow fighters or weapons to move undetected, even as the broader truce holds. The military frames the effort as a defensive necessity rather than an escalation, insisting troops are simply removing immediate threats while staying within the boundaries set by the ceasefire. For now, the tunnels keep turning up, and so does the IDF, grinding through Gaza's underground one shaft at a time.
