A fast-moving wildfire has erupted in Ben Shemen Forest in central Israel, forcing the evacuation of approximately 400 hikers as flames spread rapidly from the Hadid area toward Naot Kedumim under strong winds. Dramatic video footage showed firefighting aircraft dropping fire retardant over burning hillsides while emergency crews and fire trucks worked through heavy smoke near major highways. The blaze has raised concerns because of its proximity to Highways 1, 6 and 444, prompting authorities to urge motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Firefighters launched a large-scale emergency response as the flames continued advancing through dry vegetation and forested terrain. The evacuation was carried out as a precaution to move visitors away from areas threatened by the rapidly changing fire conditions.
Israel’s Fire and Rescue Authority deployed 12 firefighting crews to the initial response, while approximately 50 additional crews were dispatched to reinforce containment efforts alongside four firefighting aircraft operating overhead. Strong winds have complicated operations by pushing the fire eastward and increasing the risk of further spread toward surrounding wooded areas and transportation corridors. Emergency teams have continued monitoring conditions around the affected highways to reduce risks to motorists while protecting nearby communities and recreational areas. Authorities have not immediately reported injuries in connection with the fire, but officials continue urging the public to stay away from the area until conditions stabilize. The large-scale evacuation and aerial firefighting operation highlight the seriousness of the wildfire as crews work to contain one of central Israel’s most significant forest fires of the day.
