The Israeli military says it has uncovered and destroyed a massive underground tunnel stretching roughly two kilometers in southern Gaza, part of its ongoing effort to strip away Hamas infrastructure inside the Yellow Line buffer zone established under the ceasefire agreement. Troops from the Givati Brigade, working alongside the specialized Yahalom combat engineering unit, located and demolished the route as part of continuing operations by the IDF's Southern Command in the area. The military released footage showing troops walking deep through the tunnel's arched concrete interior, with electrical cables still running along the walls, alongside aerial imagery mapping out the tunnel's full path and its branching side routes across the landscape. The IDF says its forces remain deployed in the region in line with the ceasefire terms and will continue operating to eliminate any immediate threats to nearby communities.

This latest find adds to a growing tally of underground infrastructure Israeli forces have dismantled since the ceasefire with Hamas took hold, with the military reporting that it has destroyed roughly 26 kilometers of tunnels east of the Yellow Line so far. Some of those routes have stretched as long as four or five kilometers and have included hidden weapons stockpiles, ranging from rockets and grenades to launchers and rifles, underscoring how extensively Hamas built out its subterranean network over the years. Israeli officials have pointed to the tunnel clearing campaign as proof that Gaza has not been fully demilitarized, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently stressing that Israel now controls roughly 60 percent of the territory and intends to keep pushing until the disarmament effort is complete. The operations continue even as the broader ceasefire holds, reflecting how much unfinished business remains beneath Gaza's surface long after the fighting above ground slowed.
