Rep. Randy Fine, the Florida Republican who has built his political identity around the nickname "Hebrew Hammer," used a Republican Jewish Coalition event to declare that his party has run out of patience with antisemitism in its ranks. In a clip he shared of his own remarks, Fine pointed to two specific examples: the January 2026 resignation of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, whom he dismissed as a "quitter," and the May 2026 primary defeat of Rep. Thomas Massie, which he framed as a deliberate takedown. Fine has long cast himself as a vocal defender of Israel within the GOP, wearing a kippah on the House floor and repeatedly calling out colleagues he believes have crossed into antisemitic territory.

The events Fine referenced, however, carry more complicated backstories than his framing suggests. Greene's resignation followed a very public and lengthy falling-out with President Trump over issues including the release of Epstein-related files, healthcare policy, and foreign affairs, culminating in Trump branding her a "traitor" and pledging to back a primary challenger against her. Massie's primary loss came after he faced a wave of spending and opposition from pro-Israel groups, including the Republican Jewish Coalition, largely tied to his long-standing skepticism of foreign aid and military intervention abroad. Neither departure was officially attributed to antisemitism by the parties involved, though Fine has consistently characterized both men's positions on Israel as symptomatic of a broader problem within conservative politics.

Fine's own record adds another layer to the story. Earlier this year, the Congressional Jewish Caucus, made up of 21 members including several of his own Jewish colleagues, condemned Fine for anti-Muslim posts, calling the remarks "abhorrent" and inconsistent with Jewish values. He has also drawn criticism for a bruising primary campaign against an opponent who ran overtly antisemitic attack ads, a situation that drew rare bipartisan condemnation from figures including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Fine has embraced the controversy surrounding him, portraying his combative style as necessary pushback against rising antisemitism on both the left and right.

Taken together, Fine's comments highlight a deeper struggle playing out inside the Republican Party over how strictly to police its own ranks on issues related to Israel and Jewish identity. Supporters see him as a rare figure willing to name names and force uncomfortable conversations that other Republicans avoid. Critics, including some Jewish Democrats and Muslim advocacy groups, argue that his rhetoric often blurs the line between fighting antisemitism and attacking anyone who diverges from his foreign policy views. As the GOP heads toward future primary contests, Fine's remarks suggest this internal debate over Israel, loyalty, and who gets labeled an antisemite is far from settled.
