The Israeli military is making an explosive allegation out of northern Gaza: that Hamas is using Kamal Adwan Hospital as a launchpad for attacks on its troops. According to the IDF, soldiers spotted two Hamas operatives leaving the hospital overnight on Tuesday, and one of them allegedly planted explosives he had carried out of the facility near Israeli positions along the so-called Yellow Line. The IDF says the aim was to harm its forces, and that both men were struck and killed on the spot to remove the threat. The military identified one of the dead as Muhammad Tammous, described as a sniper in Hamas's military wing who also worked as a civil defense employee in Gaza.
The IDF claims this was no one-off, saying operatives advanced attacks from inside the hospital in recent days while working to rebuild Hamas's military capabilities in what it calls a systematic violation of the ceasefire. It accuses the group of cynically exploiting hospitals and medical infrastructure in violation of international law, putting civilians at risk by turning places of care into zones of militant activity. Kamal Adwan has been here before, as the IDF raided the same hospital in December 2024, saying Hamas was running a command center there, and announced the arrest of more than 240 suspected militants. Still, the latest claims come from the Israeli military alone and have not been independently verified, and hospitals carry special protection under international law, which is why questions about the evidence, the hospital's current condition, and the account of those inside are likely to follow.
