Israeli police carried out a tense nighttime operation after receiving intelligence that weapons were hidden inside a kindergarten in the city of Rahat, in southern Israel. Officers from the Southern District, working alongside fighters from the Southern National Guard, arrived at the facility and immediately began searching the grounds for anything that might confirm the tip. Rather than checking classrooms or storage rooms, the search led investigators outside to the kindergarten's sandy yard, an unlikely place to conceal something as dangerous as a firearm. What they eventually uncovered there justified every bit of the operation's urgency.

The breakthrough came when a National Guard dog handler deployed a detection dog named Ikra to search the area. Ikra worked through the yard and eventually marked a suspicious point buried in the sand, alerting officers that something was hidden beneath the surface. Video from the operation shows police vehicles arriving on scene and officers digging carefully under flashlights as they worked to unearth whatever the dog had detected. After digging at the marked location, forces pulled out a Glock-type pistol along with ammunition, and a knife was also recovered and laid out for documentation alongside the firearm and magazine.

With physical evidence now in hand, attention quickly turned to who might have placed the weapons there in the first place. Two men, ages 37 and 38, both of whom worked at the kindergarten complex, were detained for questioning at the police station following the discovery. Investigators have not yet disclosed what the men said during questioning or what their alleged connection to the buried weapons might be. The fact that the items were hidden specifically within a facility meant for young children has understandably heightened concern among local authorities and residents alike.

The operation stands as a stark example of how ordinary spaces, especially those meant to be safe for children, can sometimes become hiding places for serious threats. Police have not indicated whether the recovered weapons are linked to any broader investigation or criminal activity beyond the immediate discovery. For now, the case remains under investigation, with the two detained men expected to face further questioning as authorities work to determine exactly how and why a loaded gun ended up buried in a kindergarten sandbox.
