A family afternoon at a youth soccer game in Wichita, Kansas, turned into a scene of tragedy on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Around 3:25 p.m., a vehicle drove onto a field at the Stryker Sports Complex in northeast Wichita, killing one child and one adult and injuring several others who were taken to local hospitals. A witness told local station KWCH that a black pickup truck came through the youth fields, hitting multiple people before stopping 100 to 200 yards down the field. Police Capt. Aaron Moses called it a tragedy, and emergency crews rushed to treat victims at the scene. The driver was taken into custody, and two juveniles were inside the vehicle, which remained at the scene.
Wichita police say there is no ongoing threat to the public from the driver, but many questions remain unanswered. Investigators have not yet determined how the vehicle got onto the field, how fast it was traveling, or whether the incident was intentional, and police are asking for any video of what happened. The names and ages of those killed and the conditions of the injured have not been released. The City of Wichita canceled all events at the complex until further notice, and students, coaches, and spectators at a nearby high school flag football event were directed off the property. For a community that came together for a weekend game, the focus now turns to the victims, their families, and the investigation that is still underway.
