American drone maker Skydio has pulled the wrapping off its newest creation, the F10 Lightrunner, a fixed-wing reconnaissance drone built for speed and distance rather than hovering precision. The aircraft sports a distinctive asymmetric design, spans nearly 1.5 meters wingtip to wingtip, and is rated for a top speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour. Skydio says it can range out as far as 48 kilometers from its launch point and stay airborne for roughly two hours on a single charge, numbers that put it well beyond the reach of typical quadcopters used in public safety and inspection work today. It is a clear signal that Skydio is chasing longer, faster missions, not just closer, more agile ones.

Paired with the F10 is the MegaDock, an autonomous docking station built to store, launch, and recover up to five of the drones at once while keeping their batteries topped off and ready to fly. The idea is persistent, always-on coverage, a network of drones that can be pre-positioned across a city, a pipeline, or a stretch of farmland and dispatched the moment they are needed, without a human standing by to launch them. Skydio is positioning the combo for use cases like drone-as-first-responder programs, infrastructure inspection, and long-range surveillance, with a commercial rollout targeted for 2027. If it performs as promised, it could shift how agencies think about aerial coverage entirely, less about deploying a single drone on demand, and more about maintaining a standing fleet that never really goes offline.
