Rav Avrohom Salim, a member of the Moetzet Chachmei HaTorah of Shas, visited Yeshivas Orchos Meir in the Bayit Vegan neighborhood of Yerushalayim following the sentencing of one of its bochurim to military prison over an army draft-related issue.
The bochur, Eliyahu Dabada, had reportedly been sentenced to 20 days in military prison after becoming involved in proceedings connected to his military service status.
During his visit, Rav Salim addressed the talmidim of the yeshiva, offering words of chizuk amid growing concern over the detention of yeshiva students who have not reported for military service.
Rav Salim encouraged the bochurim to remain dedicated to their Torah learning despite the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing draft controversy.
The visit came amid heightened concern within Chareidi communities over the imprisonment of yeshiva students in connection with military service requirements.
Separate reports indicated that Dabada's original sentence had been reduced by four days, with his release expected on October 23. His actual release has not been independently confirmed.
The visit reflected the efforts of rabbonim to provide encouragement and support to yeshiva students during a period of uncertainty affecting the Torah community.
