New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited Boro Park on Wednesday, making his first visit to the heavily Orthodox Jewish neighborhood since becoming mayor.

During the visit, Mamdani stopped at Eichler’s Judaica on 13th Avenue, where he toured the store and met members of the local Jewish community ahead of Rosh Hashanah.

Footage from the visit shows the mayor speaking with community members and receiving a gift of honey, traditionally eaten on Rosh Hashanah as a symbol of hopes for a sweet new year.

Mamdani also heard the sounding of a shofar during the visit and offered Rosh Hashanah greetings to the community. The Times of Israel independently reported the visit after reviewing footage published by local Boro Park outlets.

Yeshiva World News reported that the stop marked Mamdani’s first visit to Boro Park as mayor, publishing photos and video from his appearance at Eichler’s.

The visit comes as Boro Park residents and businesses prepare for the upcoming Tishrei season and the start of the Jewish New Year.
