MOTORCYCLE WALKS ON WATER: Chinese Biker Smashes Guinness Record Riding Bike On Water
Zhang Xue, founder of Chinese motorcycle maker ZXMOTO, has set a Guinness World Record by riding a motorcycle 40.74 kilometers (25.3 miles) on open water. Xinhua videos show him crossing a river in Hunan Province on a modified MX450, making multiple back-and-forth runs in about 32 minutes. That works out to an average of roughly 76 km/h, which is fast enough for the bike to skim across the surface instead of sinking. The record has been verified, and it's one of the most unusual motorcycle feats in recent memory.
The bike uses amphibious skis for flotation and steering, while its rear tire provides the propulsion. The team also added waterproofing and extra fuel capacity so it could stay out on the river for the full distance. The record is also personal for Zhang, who first tried a similar water ride in 2009 and failed after just 20 meters. ZXMOTO says the result is the culmination of 17 years of engineering refinements by his team. It comes only months after ZXMOTO won its first World Supersport races in March 2026, a run that has made Zhang one of the best-known names in Chinese motorcycling.
