Three teenagers were killed late Wednesday when the speeding Cadillac they were riding in crashed with an SUV and flipped over on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. The eastbound black 2002 Cadillac Escalade collided with a black 2024 Honda HR-V near Exit 1 by 65th Street in Bay Ridge around 11:35 p.m. The Cadillac overturned after the impact, ejecting the three teens who died at the scene. Two other teenagers in the Escalade, ages 18 and 16, survived because they were wearing seatbelts and were not thrown from the vehicle. The crash has left families and the local community confronting a sudden and severe loss.

Police sources said the Cadillac driver was speeding when he moved from the center lane to the right lane. He then braked sharply because a slower-moving vehicle was ahead of him. The Honda HR-V behind the Escalade rear-ended it after the abrupt stop. The Cadillac struck a guardrail, spun around, and flipped, leading to the ejection of the three victims. Investigators are examining the sequence of lane change, braking, and collision to determine the full set of contributing factors.

The 46-year-old woman driving the Honda HR-V and her 44-year-old female passenger were taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. Both were reported in stable condition following the crash. No charges have been filed against any of the involved parties at this time. The Cadillac driver held a valid license on the night of the incident. Authorities continue to gather evidence and statements as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Cadillac driver’s record includes multiple prior summonses. He has received six summonses in the past, including one in January for speeding and making an unsafe lane change on the same Belt Parkway. In August of the previous year he was issued a summons on Staten Island for speeding and driving on the shoulder. He failed to answer that summons in court, resulting in a temporary license suspension that was later restored. The history of prior violations is now part of the information under review by investigators.

The surviving teenagers remained inside the Escalade because they had fastened their seatbelts. Their decision stands in contrast to the three who were ejected when the vehicle overturned. Emergency responders arrived to find a chaotic scene involving the flipped Cadillac, the damaged Honda, and the guardrail impact. The location near Exit 1 in Bay Ridge is a busy stretch of the parkway that carries heavy traffic even late at night. The crash temporarily disrupted eastbound movement while police and medical personnel worked the site.

As the investigation proceeds, officials are focusing on speed, lane discipline, and the chain of actions that led to the fatal overturn. The three teenagers who lost their lives were passengers in a vehicle whose driver had a documented pattern of earlier traffic infractions. The two women from the Honda remain in stable condition, and the two belted teenage survivors avoided ejection. No charges have been announced, and the driver’s license was valid at the time of the crash. The Belt Parkway incident leaves a clear record of how quickly a series of decisions on a highway can produce irreversible consequences.
