Private Payrolls Slow to 98K in June as U.S. Job Growth Cools Under Trump Economy

Private payrolls in the United States increased by 98,000 in June, according to data released by ADP Research. The figure fell short of economist expectations of around 120,000 and represents a slowdown from the 122,000 jobs added in May. This marks the latest reading on a labor market that continues to show signs of moderation.

ADP’s chief economist noted uneven hiring patterns across sectors. While financial activities and information saw gains, leisure and hospitality recorded a sixth straight month of weakness. The data serves as an early indicator ahead of the official Bureau of Labor Statistics nonfarm payrolls report and points to cooling private-sector job growth amid supply and demand challenges.

Despite the softer numbers, the Trump administration continues to emphasize pro-growth policies aimed at strengthening the economy and creating better opportunities for American workers. Supporters argue that targeted reforms and reducing regulatory burdens will help reignite stronger hiring momentum. As the year progresses, all eyes remain on upcoming official employment data and the administration’s efforts to deliver robust economic expansion.
