Two Brooklyn Mosdos Evacuated Following Friday Morning Bomb Threats
Two Brooklyn mosdos were evacuated on Friday morning, October 9, after receiving bomb threats over the phone just minutes apart.
The first threat was called in at approximately 9:54 a.m. to the Yeshivah of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School. Barely six minutes later, a similar threatening call was made to the United Talmudical Academy (UTA) in Williamsburg.
Following the call, the hanhalah at Yeshivah of Flatbush immediately placed the building on a full lockdown before coordinating a complete evacuation with the NYPD. Talmidim and staff at UTA were similarly evacuated from their building. Staff members safely led the young children outside, where they gathered on the surrounding streets as police secured the area.
NYPD emergency response units, accompanied by K-9 units with bomb-sniffing dogs, quickly descended on both locations to conduct thorough sweeps of the buildings.
Baruch Hashem, the searches turned up no explosives or dangerous materials, and authorities quickly determined both threats to be unfounded. No injuries were reported in either incident.
Once the NYPD gave the all-clear, talmidim and staff were permitted to return to their classrooms. As of now, no arrests have been made, and an active police investigation into the source of the threatening calls is ongoing.
The scares come just days after a similar bomb threat was called into a shul in Lakewood, New Jersey, earlier this week, though authorities have not yet confirmed if the incidents are connected.
