A false alarm over a suspected military arrest brought a group of Ger Chassidim onto the streets of Arad on Monday, October 19, after reports circulated that authorities were attempting to detain a member of the Chareidi community over military draft issues.
The incident began when police officers arrived at a residential building in the city. Their presence sparked concern among local residents, who mistakenly believed the officers were military police carrying out an arrest.
An alert was circulated through the Black Color network, which notifies Chareidi activists of suspected military draft enforcement operations. Ger Chassidim quickly gathered in the area in an effort to prevent what they believed was an imminent arrest.
However, it soon emerged that the officers were regular police responding to an unrelated complaint involving a crying baby, rather than military personnel seeking to arrest a yeshiva bochur.
The misunderstanding nevertheless led to a confrontation at the scene.
According to local reports, allegations emerged that members of the crowd confronted officers and a municipal inspector, with claims that a police vehicle was damaged during the disturbance. These allegations have not been independently verified.
Arad Mayor Yair Maayan condemned the incident, criticizing the confrontation with law enforcement personnel.
The gathering followed heightened concerns within Chareidi communities over military draft enforcement and the arrests of yeshiva bochurim.
What began as an effort to prevent a feared military arrest ultimately turned out to be a false alarm, with no military arrest operation taking place at the location.
