Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday, October 25, that he is aware of talk of a new war, but that if there is any rationality, the United States and Israel will not try military aggression against the Iranian people again. In his words, they tried twice and saw the result, and he said Iran's policies would not change even if war resumed. The remarks were made at an event in Tehran, and some reports describe them as a response to renewed threats, including from President Donald Trump. Araghchi also said the Strait of Hormuz will never go back to the way it was before the war, arguing that new realities have emerged and that shipping routes and management of the waterway will no longer be the same.
The two "tries" he is referring to are the 12-day war in June 2025 and a larger US-Israeli campaign that began on February 28, 2026, lasted about 40 days, and stopped in early April with a ceasefire. Iranian officials and state media describe both wars as failures for the attackers, which is Tehran's reading of events. Araghchi also said that any agreement to end the war must cover all fronts, warning that stability will remain out of reach otherwise. With the ceasefire holding but the dispute over Hormuz and Washington's threats unresolved, the big questions are whether either side is willing to risk a third round, what a final deal would look like, and who will control one of the world's most important shipping lanes.
