At the personal behest of the elder Breslov Rabbanim, prominent askan Rabbi Moshe David Niederman has stepped in to negotiate with top-tier government officials to ease border crossings ahead of Rosh Hashanah.
Over the past few weeks, Rabbi Niederman has held a series of critical meetings with the Polish Foreign Ministry and high-ranking border authorities to develop logistical plans ensuring maximum cooperation for those traveling to Uman.
During these discussions, the severe difficulties experienced last year were heavily addressed. Many travelers were forced to wait for hours in the freezing rain and cold due to a severe shortage of border personnel. Polish government officials issued an apology for last year's conditions and assured Rabbi Niederman that they have taken the matter seriously and learned the necessary lessons.
A major logistical update involves the main Medyka border crossing (en route to Lviv), which will be largely closed to buses this year due to extensive construction work. To accommodate the massive influx of travelers, the Polish government has agreed to designate alternative border crossings and will be doubling the number of border guards stationed at these locations.
Official announcements detailing the exact crossing points are expected in the coming days.
Rabbi Niederman is also working intensively with authorities on the Ukrainian side to facilitate seamless coordination between Polish and Ukrainian border officials. These talks are reportedly making significant progress, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that the crossings operate smoothly, efficiently, and without unnecessary delays on either side of the border.
Polish government and customs officials have strongly emphasized the critical need for all travelers to strictly adhere to Polish customs regulations.
Travelers are urged not to carry any prohibited items, as even a single minor infraction can trigger a halt to the entire system. Such incidents cause massive delays and immense agmas nefesh for the thousands of other Yidden waiting in line behind them.
With these extensive logistical preparations underway, askanim are hopeful that the journey to the massive Rosh Hashanah Kibbutz will be significantly smoother, calmer, and more organized this year, b’ezras Hashem.
