The United States seized a sixth sanctioned oil tanker Thursday morning, reinforcing President Trump’s hardline enforcement of economic pressure against the Venezuelan regime just hours before his scheduled meeting with opposition leader María Corina Machado.

According to U.S. Southern Command, American Marines and sailors launched from the USS Gerald R. Ford, operating in the Caribbean, to apprehend the tanker Veronica. The vessel was intercepted after authorities determined it was operating in direct violation of President Trump’s established quarantine on sanctioned oil shipments in the region.

Military officials stated that the tanker was deliberately defying U.S. restrictions designed to prevent sanctioned regimes from evading international pressure through illicit oil transport. The operation highlights the Trump administration’s continued willingness to back its sanctions policy with decisive military enforcement.

The timing of the seizure is significant, coming just ahead of President Trump’s meeting with Machado, one of the most prominent voices opposing Venezuela’s socialist leadership. The move sends a clear signal that the United States remains committed to isolating the Maduro-aligned oil network while supporting democratic opposition figures.

By deploying naval assets to enforce sanctions, the Trump administration is underscoring its broader strategy of restoring accountability, defending regional stability, and denying authoritarian governments the financial lifelines that sustain their grip on power.
