Israeli forces carried out a wave of strikes in southern Lebanon overnight Wednesday after Hezbollah launched two explosive-laden drones toward troops operating in the Ali al-Taher Ridge area, according to the IDF.

The military said troops opened fire on one of the drones and intercepted it. No Israeli casualties were reported. The IDF subsequently struck what it identified as Hezbollah infrastructure in the Nabatieh area, saying the sites had been used to plan and direct attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.

Lebanese reports described extensive strikes and shelling across the region overnight. Areas reported hit included Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Kfar Rumman, Arab Salim and the Ali al-Taher Ridge.

The violence continued later Wednesday. Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone strike in Nabatieh killed one person and wounded another. A second drone strike reportedly hit a building elsewhere in the city.

The overnight exchange came amid continuing Israeli operations in southern Lebanon. A day earlier, the IDF said its forces were operating in the area against Hezbollah infrastructure and had located anti-tank missiles, launchers, explosives and other weapons.

The military said Wednesday that its strikes following the drone attack were intended to eliminate what it described as an immediate threat and that operations against Hezbollah attempts to attack its forces would continue.
