A 14-year-old boy was slashed inside a Borough Park shul Monday evening, with police taking a 22-year-old suspect into custody following the incident.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. inside Congregation Kedushas Yosef Verdan on 54th Street near 17th Avenue, according to police and local reports.

Authorities said the 22-year-old allegedly used a cutting instrument to slash the teenager in the hand. Police responded to the location following a 911 call concerning an emotionally disturbed person inside the shul.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The 14-year-old declined medical attention at the scene.

Police said both the teenager and the suspect are congregants of the shul. Authorities have not disclosed what led up to the incident, and the circumstances surrounding the slashing remain under investigation.
