MICHIGAN SENATE SHOWDOWN: Trump Gives Rogers Complete And Total Endorsement Against El-Sayed
President Donald Trump is going all in for Mike Rogers in Michigan's open U.S. Senate race. In his latest post, Trump called Rogers a "Great American Patriot," gave him his "complete and total endorsement," and promised that he will never let voters down. He also slammed the Democratic nominee, Abdul El-Sayed, whom he called "Mohammed," as a terrible candidate for the "Dumocrats." The seat is open because Democratic Sen. Gary Peters is retiring, and Election Day is November 3, 2026. Rogers, a former congressman, lost the 2024 Senate race to Elissa Slotkin by about 19,000 votes.
The contest is a genuine toss-up, with polls showing El-Sayed holding a narrow lead within the margin of error, while Republicans are hunting for their first Michigan Senate win since 1994. Trump's broader attacks on El-Sayed, a physician and former Wayne County health director who would be the first Muslim in the U.S. Senate, have been criticized as Islamophobic, and El-Sayed has brushed them aside, saying Trump is more interested in saying his name in an interesting way than in solving Michigan's problems. The two candidates also traded sharp personal attacks in an October 8 debate. Rogers has even broken with Trump on his trade fight with Canada, so the open question is whether a Trump endorsement will help or complicate his bid in a state that could decide control of the Senate.
