Hundreds of Haredim gathered in Modi’in overnight after Military Police arrived at the home of a yeshiva bochur in an attempt to arrest him over his draft status.

The bochur, a talmid of Yeshivas Ohr HaChaim, is approximately 20 days before his chasuna. After word of the attempted arrest spread, hundreds of protesters arrived at the scene, including groups from nearby Modi’in Illit and other communities.

Large police forces were called to the area as the crowd continued to grow. Confrontations broke out near the residential building, while protesters gathered outside and others entered the building where the bochur and the Military Police were located.

After more than an hour of tense scenes, discussions were held at the scene and the Military Police ultimately left without taking the bochur into custody.

Following his release, protesters were instructed to disperse, bringing the overnight hafgana to an end. The bochur later arrived in Modi’in Illit, where he was greeted by supporters.
