Turkish defense manufacturer ROKETSAN has successfully completed a new round of test launches for its ÇAKIR cruise missile, firing the weapon from a ground-based launcher for the first time and striking both land and maritime targets with precision. The two-launch test campaign, conducted on separate days, saw the missile engage a land target and a sea target using its new-generation imaging infrared seeker, which the company says provides high-resolution guidance even in difficult environments. ROKETSAN celebrated the results in a social media post, describing the missile as having "a single target, a sharp eye," and noting that there is "no escape" from ÇAKIR once it locks on. The tests mark a significant milestone for a missile system that was originally designed for deployment from unmanned aerial platforms rather than ground vehicles.

Until now, ÇAKIR had primarily been launched from drone platforms, including Turkey's Akıncı unmanned combat aerial vehicle, where it previously demonstrated automatic target recognition capabilities by distinguishing a specific target from nearby ones during a terminal-stage engagement. This latest round of testing proves the missile can now be fired from ground vehicles as well, expanding its operational reach across multiple branches of the armed forces. According to ROKETSAN, this kind of multi-platform integration allows the same missile family to be used interchangeably by air, land, and naval forces, giving military commanders far greater flexibility when planning missions. The company has described the missile as a modular, next-generation system built around a compact airframe, with different seeker options, including infrared, radio-frequency, and hybrid configurations, tailored to different target types.

Alongside the platform expansion, the tests also validated an extended range capability made possible by an upgraded propulsion system, giving ÇAKIR greater reach than its earlier configurations. The missile is designed to operate at ranges exceeding 150 kilometers, with low observability features and all-weather navigation systems that allow it to fly low along terrain or water to minimize the chances of detection by enemy radar. ÇAKIR's guidance suite reportedly combines inertial navigation with anti-jam satellite positioning, along with radar and barometric altimeters, allowing it to maintain an accurate flight path even under electronic jamming conditions. These technical refinements are part of a broader effort by Turkey's defense industry to reduce reliance on foreign-made precision weapons and build out a fully domestic strike capability.

The successful ground-launch tests position ÇAKIR alongside other homegrown Turkish systems, such as the Atmaca anti-ship missile and its longer-range land-based variant, Kara Atmaca, as part of a growing family of indigenous strike weapons aimed at strengthening the country's coastal defense and land-attack capabilities. Turkey has increasingly emphasized domestic weapons development in recent years, with ROKETSAN positioning ÇAKIR as a flexible, cost-effective option for a wide range of military branches. As Turkey continues to showcase these systems at international defense exhibitions, the successful demonstration of ground-launch capability is likely to strengthen the country's pitch to potential export customers looking for adaptable, multi-domain missile systems. For now, ROKETSAN says it will continue expanding ÇAKIR's testing and integration across additional platforms as development continues.
