A deadly crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-95 in New Rochelle early Tuesday morning after a box truck collided with a tractor-trailer, authorities confirmed.

The accident happened just after midnight at mile marker 6.1 in Westchester County. Investigators say a 2026 Peterbilt tractor-trailer had slowed down in the right lane due to an active construction zone when it was rear-ended by a 2016 Hino box truck.

The Hino truck burst into flames upon impact, killing the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released the victimโ€™s identity.

The Peterbiltโ€™s driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash forced a full closure of I-95 southbound for hours as crews worked to extinguish the fire, clear debris, and investigate the cause of the collision.
