A sunny Saturday at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster turned into a nightmare around 1:30 p.m. on October 10, when a man climbed into a tiger enclosure and was fatally attacked by Altai, the park's Amur (Siberian) tiger. Witnesses say he had been wandering the park with headphones in, dancing, and even asked a fellow visitor to photograph him with the tiger lazing in the background, a clip that has since been viewed more than 11 million times on X. Moments later he scaled a fence of roughly 15 feet, and one witness says a woman nearby tried to hold him back but was not strong enough. South Yorkshire Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene, and his family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers. Police have not named him at his family's request, and any names circulating online have not been confirmed.

Eyewitness accounts of what happened next are chilling. One onlooker, Anthony Hunt, told UK media the man knelt in the main viewing area with his arms spread wide, bowing toward the animal in a way that looked like an invitation, before the tiger attacked and he screamed. Staff rushed in and fired two warning shots into the ground to scare the big cat away, and the park says Altai was unharmed and will not be euthanized. Other witnesses said the man seemed confused and may not have expected the tiger to actually attack, while the park raised a black screen around the enclosure and closed for the rest of the weekend. With police still investigating, questions remain about how a visitor was able to get over the fence so quickly and what led him there.
