IDF Destroys 55-Meter Hezbollah Tunnel HQ Just 300 Meters From UNIFIL Post

Israeli Defense Forces have dismantled a significant Hezbollah underground headquarters located astonishingly close to a United Nations peacekeeping position. The 55-meter tunnel, used as a command center, was built beneath a construction materials factory in southern Lebanon and sat only 300 meters from a UNIFIL building. Inside, troops found living quarters along with an underground weapons cache containing dozens of arms. Combat engineers destroyed the site this week during ongoing operations in the security zone.

The discovery once again exposes Hezbollah’s long-standing practice of embedding military infrastructure in and around civilian and international sites. By placing a command tunnel so near a UNIFIL post, the terror group sought both concealment and the political cover that comes from operating in proximity to peacekeepers. The IDF’s 401st Brigade and Yahalom unit located the shaft and the connected tunnel during activity in the village of Haddatha, neutralizing a facility that could have been used to direct attacks against Israeli communities.

For those who support Israel’s right to defend itself, this operation is another clear demonstration of the necessity of proactive measures in southern Lebanon. UNIFIL’s presence has repeatedly failed to prevent Hezbollah from constructing and maintaining such infrastructure right under its nose. As long as the Iranian-backed group continues to rebuild its attack capabilities near the border, the IDF will continue to locate and destroy them. The message is straightforward: threats to Israeli civilians will not be allowed to take root, regardless of how carefully they are hidden.
