A chilling incident at a railway crossing north of Diss station in Norfolk has shocked viewers nationwide after CCTV footage captured a teenager’s narrow escape from an oncoming train.  

The video shows the teenager walking toward the tracks, seemingly unaware—or dismissive—of multiple warning signs. Moments later, a high-speed train roars past, missing the young person by mere inches. The teen manages to step back at the very last second, narrowly avoiding what could have been a fatal accident.  

Officials from Network Rail described the footage as “deeply alarming,” emphasizing the ongoing danger of pedestrian crossings and the importance of heeding railway safety warnings. “This is a stark reminder that these crossings are not shortcuts—they are potential death traps,” a railway safety spokesperson stated.  

The terrifying near-miss has since gone viral, with many viewers expressing disbelief at the teen’s recklessness and gratitude that tragedy was averted. Authorities are reviewing the footage to determine if further safety measures are needed in the area, though the crossing already had clear signage and warnings in place.  

While the teen escaped without injury, the incident underscores the deadly risks associated with ignoring railway safety barriers. British Transport Police urged the public—particularly young people—to stay vigilant and respect safety signals, noting that “no shortcut is worth a life.”
