An escaped inmate in Lafayette, Louisiana, was caught on camera hiding in a backyard after a dramatic chase that temporarily locked down three schools.
The fugitive, identified as 47-year-old Shon Alick Jolivette, had been charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery, and illegal possession of a firearm. On August 28, 2025, he managed to escape deputies outside a local hospital, sparking a citywide search.
According to police, Jolivette climbed into a residential backyard and hid inside a garbage can after running out of energy. A police K9 team searched the property but failed to find him, leaving residents frustrated — and amused — by the slip-up.
The homeowner later spotted Jolivette on security cameras and alerted authorities. When officers returned, the inmate attempted to conceal himself inside a storage container but was quickly taken into custody.
The escape prompted a temporary lockdown of three nearby schools as a precaution. Jolivette is now back in custody and expected to face additional charges for the escape.
