A 41-year-old man was killed early this morning after crashing a stolen vehicle into a building at Flatbush Avenue and Avenue J in Brooklyn’s Midwood neighborhood.

According to police, the vehicle had been taken moments earlier when an Uber driver left it running while stepping into an ATM. Witnesses reported seeing the car speeding before it struck the building, leaving the vehicle torn apart and debris scattered for nearly a block.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The NYPD Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the incident, which has raised renewed concerns over car thefts and reckless driving in the city.
