Syrian customs authorities announced the seizure of 226 RGC-type 40mm rifle grenades during an inspection at the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing with Lebanon on Tuesday. According to officials, the munitions were concealed inside specially constructed secret compartments within a black sedan that was attempting to cross into Lebanese territory. Photographs released by Syrian authorities showed customs officers wearing protective equipment alongside a K-9 unit as they secured the vehicle and its contents.

Authorities said the grenades appeared to be new and unused, distinguishing them from munitions commonly associated with local Syrian military stockpiles. The discovery was made during a routine customs inspection, though officials have not publicly identified the individuals involved or disclosed whether any arrests were made in connection with the seizure. An investigation is reportedly underway to determine the origin of the weapons and the intended recipients.

The interception comes shortly after Syrian authorities reported another significant weapons seizure at a separate border crossing, where anti-tank weapons and drones were allegedly intercepted before they could leave the country. The back-to-back operations have highlighted ongoing concerns about illicit weapons trafficking through border routes linking Syria and neighboring states. Security officials continue to monitor major crossings that have historically served as important commercial and transit corridors.

While speculation has circulated that the latest shipment may have been destined for Hezbollah through the Damascus-Beirut route, Syrian authorities have not confirmed any intended destination or linked the seized grenades to a specific organization. Officials have instead emphasized that the investigation remains active and that further information will be released as evidence is examined. The seizure underscores continued regional efforts to disrupt illegal arms smuggling networks operating across the Syrian-Lebanese border.
