Panic and confusion swept through a Bronx neighborhood Monday afternoon after a packed MTA bus lost control and smashed into multiple vehicles, injuring at least seven people and leaving a trail of wreckage across several city blocks.

The crash occurred just before 2 p.m. along East 163rd Street in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. According to authorities and witnesses, a BX6 MTA bus veered out of control and plowed into between four and six vehicles over a five-block stretch, creating a scene one bystander described as looking “like they were shooting a movie.”

Passengers onboard the bus were thrown into chaos as the vehicle barreled forward, striking parked cars and sending debris across the street. Several witnesses reported hearing loud crashes in rapid succession as the bus continued moving before finally coming to a stop.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where at least seven people — including the 63-year-old bus driver — were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Officials said the injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening, though the full extent of injuries was still being evaluated.

The incident prompted a heavy police and emergency presence, temporarily shutting down portions of East 163rd Street as crews worked to assist victims, assess damage, and remove the disabled bus and damaged vehicles.

Authorities have not yet released details on what caused the bus to lose control, and the incident remains under investigation. Transit officials are expected to review vehicle data and driver reports as part of the inquiry.
