Meteorologists identified the vortex as a landspout, a type of tornado that forms differently from the massive supercell tornadoes more commonly associated with violent severe weather outbreaks. Unlike traditional tornadoes driven by rotating thunderstorms, landspouts develop from surface wind convergence that stretches upward into growing storm clouds, often producing thinner but still potentially dangerous funnels capable of causing localized damage.
The striking footage arrives as severe weather continues to hammer parts of Texas with strong thunderstorms, heavy lightning, and dangerous atmospheric instability. While landspouts are generally weaker than classic tornadoes, weather experts warned they can still pose serious risks to motorists, rural communities, and outdoor activity, especially when visibility is reduced during nighttime storm conditions.
