A homecoming celebration at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania turned tragic Saturday night when gunfire erupted, killing one person and injuring six others at one of the nation’s oldest historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
The shooting occurred during a large campus gathering, sending students and visitors fleeing for cover as police and emergency responders rushed to the scene. Authorities confirmed that six victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, though their conditions have not yet been released.
University officials expressed shock and grief over the violence, urging calm as law enforcement investigates the incident. The identity of the deceased victim has not been made public pending notification of family members.
Classes and all remaining homecoming events were suspended as investigators worked through the night collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation and have not yet announced any arrests or suspects.
Founded in 1854, Lincoln University holds a proud place in U.S. history as one of the first degree-granting HBCUs. Saturday’s tragedy has cast a heavy shadow over what was meant to be a weekend of pride and reunion for students and alumni alike.
